Mazen Abbas, DO

Dr. Abbas earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1996 and completed a Masters of Public Health at Emory University in 1997 before pursuing his osteopathic medical degree (DO) at Ohio University, which he completed in 2003. During that time, he also commissioned in the United States Army and, later, went on to complete his internship at Dewitt Army Community Hospital at Fort Belvoir, Virginia in 2004.  In 2007, he completed a pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He served an overseas tour in Belgium as a general pediatrician and flight surgeon before completing, in 2012, his Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition fellowship at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He returned to Hawaii where he served as a staff and, later as the chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Tripler and also deployed in 2014 to the Philippines.  During his career, he has published numerous journal articles and given presentations at a number of conferences with special emphases on advocacy for children and disease and injury prevention.

Accomplishments

Dr. Abbas has authored one textbook chapter and numerous articles including one on magnet ingestions in children and bowel preparation regimens. He has numerous military awards and accomplishments.

Personal Interests

Dr. Abbas enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming, biking and cooking. He is also a novice triathlete, having completed Ironman New Zealand in 2015. He has two children.
