Doug Nelson, MD

The Gastroenterologists with MNGI Digestive Health get to know so much about their patients, but the patients don’t always get to know much about their doctors. This new blog series provides a chance to learn a little bit more about the caring physicians who are caring for you.

Today, meet Dr. Doug Nelson. You may have seen Dr. Nelson in one of our Twin Cities clinics for your GI concerns, and know how dedicated he is to the lifelong care of his patients. Now you can learn more about him and his journey through medicine!

Why did you want to study medicine?

Initially, I tried not to!  My father was a doctor, and although I had an early interest in medicine it seemed a bit cliché to “follow in my father’s footsteps.”  I looked at a variety of other career options; ultimately none of them were as satisfying for me as medicine.  I enjoy interacting with patients, and the satisfaction of improving their health.
