Professional Background

Dr. Basman completed his medical school education at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1980. After graduation, he performed his internship in medicine and surgery at Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. For the next year, Dr. Basman worked as a medical officer for Mission Hospital in Namibia, Africa.

In 1985, he moved to Chicago for his internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago in 1990.

Dr. Basman’s special medical interest are general gastroenterology and hepatobiliary disorders. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Gastroenterology.

During his leisure time, Dr. Basman is an active runner and is involved in various sporting activities on a personal level, as well as in a coaching capacity.
