Professional Background

Dr. Colton completed his undergraduate work at Middlebury College in Vermont.  He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota.  His internship, residency and fellowship were completed at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  The last year of fellowship was spent as the pancreatobiliary therapeutic endoscopy fellow.  Dr. Colton's special interests are pancreatobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and treatment for hemorrhoids.  Dr. Colton has been the chairperson of the pancreatobiliary committee and recently published the largest study to date, looking at quality indicators and complications of ERCP in community practice.  Dr. Colton is also interested in colon cancer screening and performs a large volume of colonoscopies.

Dr. Colton was Board Certified in Internal Medicine in 1996 and in Gastroenterology in 2000.  He is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

Dr. Colton mostly enjoys spending time with his family, but also enjoys bicycle touring, mountain biking, cross-country and downhill skiing, tennis, and gardening.
