David Perdue, MD


Dr. Perdue is board-certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.  He has served on the training committee for the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and is a health-disparities consultant for the American Gastroenterological Association.  His clinical practice focuses on gastrointestinal cancer prevention, familial colorectal cancer syndromes, and general gastroenterology.  He is the preferred provider for American Indian patients and strives to deliver culturally tailored healthcare.

Dr. Perdue grew up in Spokane Washington.  He completed his undergraduate work at the  Honors College at Washington State University, and earned a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Colorado.  He then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine where he participated in the Native American Health Pathway.   During this experience he externed with the Seattle Indian Health Board, spent several months traveling with a traditional healer, and conducted research with Alaska Native populations through the CDC’s Arctic Investigation Program in Anchorage.   He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Minnesota, where he subsequently spent 3 years on the faculty.

A member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, Dr. Perdue divides his time between clinical practice and research aimed at decreasing colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancer disparities in American Indian and Alaska Native populations.   He is Medical Director of the American Indian Cancer Foundation.  He currently has active research projects involving reservation and urban cohots in the Northwest, Northern Plains and Alaska.  In addition he co-chairs the Minnesota Intertribal Colorectal Cancer Council and the Minnesota Colon Cancer Task Force.  He is also a member of both the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic’s Spirit of Eagles Cancer Research Network.

Dr. Perdue’s family of 6 keeps busy with hockey, fly fishing and baseball.  He enjoys coaching youth sports and is a volunteer firefighter with the Medicine Lake Fire Department.  His wonderful wife Nina is a neonatologist at Minneapolis Children's Hospital.
