Professional Background

Dr. Kaplan received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota. He served his residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, where he completed his fellowship in gastroenterology.

Dr. Kaplan is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is one of the co-founders of Digestive Healthcare and served as its chief executive officer until 1990. He has been named Distinguished Clinician by the American Gastroenterological Association and has annually appeared on the Best Doctor's List of Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine since its inception.

He is a co-founder of the Gastrointestinal Diagnostic Center, one of the country's first independent endoscopy and diagnostic facilities. A frequent speaker, Dr. Kaplan has made presentations about gastroenterology to state and national medical groups and to the general public through radio and TV appearances.

Dr. Kaplan has had numerous staff appointments including: Director and Founder of the Gastrointestinal Laboratory at Mount Sinai; Chief of Gastroenterology and Chief of the Medical Staff at the same institution. He also served as a Medical Director of the HealthOne Colon Cancer Center.

He is a board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His special medical interest include: colon cancer prevention and diagnosis, colonoscopy, esophageal disease and laser treatment for gastrointestinal lesions.

Dr. Kaplan enjoys walking, gourmet cooking, watching movies, traveling with his children & Grandchildren.
