What Keeps Me Coming Back - Week 2

August is MNGI Pride Month.  During this time, our employees have an opportunity to share the experiences that make them feel good about the job that they do.  We recognize that it’s the little things that keeps our employees coming back to work each day, and gives us satisfaction even when we have a rough day.  Here are some of those experiences that MNGI employees have shared:

When I’m not at work and people ask me what I do and I tell them, they’re response is (if generally they’re over 50)… “Oh I was just there and had such a great experience and everyone was so nice!”  Sarah T.

It is very rewarding for me to be able to put patient’s minds at ease about our procedures.  You know when patients are extremely nervous.  This is our job to help comfort patients and make them feel at ease.  Deb M.

I have developed relationships with some of our “regular patients” that have come in over the years.  It’s a great feeling to know that these patients trust us and are comfortable sharing their lives with us.  Meghan M.

I’m known at Court as the “gimp” because of my broken ankle and the crutches.  Everyone has been so nice opening doors for me, helping out and I really appreciate it.  I come back because my co-workers are so nice and even if you don’t know them they’re still willing to ask you how you are doing.  Nichol S.

MNGI is a great place to work.  Great co-workers, managers, etc… Everyone is so friendly to work with.  There is always someone there to help you out if you have questions, ideas or simply just need advice.  Anonymous

Numerous Allina Care employees have been scheduled at MNGI endo centers.  I’ve always called them and explained the Allina Care/Allina guidelines.  Some have been argumentative, but I’ve explained to them they need to give Medica the legal name of the specific facility they’re having their colonoscopies done at. I had a couple employees that actually called Medica with specific endo center name and were told they would not have 100% coverage.  Another patient was in the process of changing primary clinics and I somehow got the call as she had managed care.  I called her, discussed the problem she was going to have for getting a referral authorization.  I called her NEW primary clinic, they told me she’d never been seen there and they didn’t refer her to MNGI.  I called the patient told her to call and set up an appointment with a new clinic ASAP.  The new clinic stated to me they would honor the referral authorization so long as she called the new primary clinic to get scheduled ASAP.  The new clinic stated they would do a retro referral for the upcoming DOS.  Both patients spoke to my manager and stated that I had gone above and beyond.  Joann B.

As an operator, we answer a lot of colonoscopy prep questions.  Many of our patients have a hard time understanding how to prepare.  It feels good when patients say they would have given up and not done the procedure if it wasn’t for us here to answer questions.  Stephanie R.

I was at Walgreens and mistakenly forgot to take my badge off after work.  A patient spotted where I worked and struck up a conversation about Dr. Conroy and our organization.  She sang many praises about how far her chronic illness has come (improved) because of the care that she receives here.  I like knowing that she has gotten her life back.  Her gratitude made my day.  Sara W.

I enjoy calming the fears of the patients regarding their procedures.  I believe that everyone should have a colonoscopy to prevent the risk of colon cancer.  I believe I have helped patients who were unsure if they really needed to have the procedure.  Talking to them helps, they will keep their appointment or will schedule their appointment with us.  I also think that I have the best co-workers in our department, some of which I have worked with for over 5 years.  They are always willing to help.  We not only take incoming calls but also help the Endo Centers if they need help in calling referrals to get them scheduled.  Anonymous

My job satisfaction comes from the fact that I really love what I do and I enjoy the opportunities to work with and mentor others on a daily basis.  I love to lead by example and encourage my team to strive for the “next level” of performance.  Melanie G.

A woman came in for her office visit and thought that she was supposed to be at our clinic, the packet that she received told her to come to Maplewood but her appointment was really at Eagan, she was upset but I told her I would call Eagan an see if they could still fit her in.  They said they could so I gave her a map and direction and she was so happy she gave me a hug and told me I was a great help.  Being able to make our patients happy is what keeps me coming back to MNGI.  Felicia G.

This happened a while a go at the Maplewood Clinic.  Dr. Potter saw a patient and after she had left the appointment room, he realized it was her 70th birthday.  On the way out she stopped to use the restroom.  When she came out he sang her a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday to You”.  She was very touched that he would do such a thing.  Chris J.

Last week I won the prize for “What keeps me coming back”.  This week I can honestly say I used the lantern for the storm on Friday night that put us in the dark until Sunday around 9:00pm – thanks again!  Pat T.
